1947: A History of Agriculture
Frederick Payne purchases Hilltop Nurseries in Weeley in 1947. His son, Geoffrey Payne, joins him in the business after leaving school in 1962
1971: Paynes Turf is established
Geoffrey Payne establishes Paynes Turf and sells meadow turf
1987: Growing cultivated turf
Geoffrey Payne begins growing cultivated turf from seed, on around 15 acres
1989: Growing family
John Payne, son of Geoffrey, joins Paynes Turf, soon followed by his younger brother Stephen. Today, the two brothers are both directors of the business
Now: Growing Family
We grow and harvest turf on over 1500 acres of quality land in Essex and Suffolk
